(No Teeth Pulling)
Adult treatment is similar to adolescent with the exception that expanders are not used as commonly. Titanium expanders can be attempted in some cases. Extraction is a more common approach along with braces.
Titanium Expander in Adults: This non-extraction treatment is given when upper arch is narrow, some expansion is possible and the facial profile will preserve a broad smile.

Stripping Enamel: Many cases may need a little shaving or striping of enamel from the sides of teeth to reduce the width of teeth to create space. This safe procedure is done in our office and does not cause any problems with the teeth. Only extra over the counter fluoride rinses might be needed to protect the remaining enamel of the teeth. This procedure may also be needed to address “black triangles” sometimes caused by aligning overlapping teeth. | |||
